We have a Registered Nurse on our advisory board with over 40 years of nursing experiences in medical – surgical nursing areas: oncology, (CCU)critical care, intensive care (ICU), urology, surgical recovery, emergency room crossing over to either a hospital, academic or office settings. She has background with inpatient, outpatient nursing, administrative and management positions.
She currently serves as Administrator for Managed Care Contracts for a private practice. In 1966, after nursing school graduation in West Virginia, she worked at Ohio State University Medical Center until her husband finished medical school and migrated across the country to Florida and Tennessee and settled in Houston.
Our advisory board R.N. has incorporated her medical background and volunteerism in life where she presented drug awareness programs throughout the School District to 4th, 5th, and 6th grade classes and earlier created health-related educational programs winning a National Grolier Educational Service Award for her PTA project: “Have You Ever Walked Through A Human Heart?” She was honored as a local and national Texas PTA Life Member and as a docent for the Houston Museum of Health Sciences.
She served more than ten years on local, district and state committees for the American Cancer Society (e.g; ACS public education and breast self-exam programs). She has received many ACS awards and has been recognized with many other outstanding honors.
For six years, she was a member of the Board of Directors for the Krist Samaritan Center for Counseling & Education, served as President and has served on numerous nonprofit boards in Houston and the Clear Lake-NASA community. She is happily married to a dermatologist, has two children and six grandchildren.
